Local Spotlight: Mimi's Origamis
Mimi's Origamis is an origami jewelry line based in Austin, TX.
“Growing up as a first-generation Japanese-American, origami was a big part of my childhood. It's how I connected with my Japanese culture and gave me a sense of belonging when I traveled to Japan to visit my relatives. It gave me comfort whenever I made big life transitions, and after becoming a mother, I felt myself longing for its familiarity.”
Each piece is made by hand from traditional washi paper with the intention of bringing peace and fortune to those who wear it.
My personal favorite is the Fan & Hoop Crane Collection - a fun and colorful collection that is lightweight and great for everyday wear. I love that Mimi uses 14k gold fill materials as it’s better and longer lasting than plating.
